Choose Bluetooth for everyday convenience
Bluetooth is often the easiest input for a compact desktop or bedroom system. Pair a phone or tablet, select the amplifier or speakers as the output device, and start listening without moving cables. It is also useful when several people share a system.
Wireless performance depends on the Bluetooth version, codec support, transmission range, walls, nearby networks, and the source device. A newer codec does not guarantee better results if the source does not support it. Keep the phone within a reasonable distance and avoid placing the receiver behind dense furniture or metal objects.
Bluetooth is a good choice for casual listening, background music, podcasts, and situations where convenience encourages the system to be used more often.
Choose RCA for a dependable analog path
RCA uses separate left and right connectors for an analog line-level signal. It remains one of the most common ways to connect a DAC, CD player, streamer, phono preamplifier, mixer, or television with analog output.
An RCA connection is simple, visible, and easy to troubleshoot. If one channel is missing, swap the cable ends or source outputs to identify the problem. Keep signal cables away from large power adapters where practical, and use a sensible cable length rather than coiling unnecessary cable behind the system.
A headphone output is not exactly the same as a fixed line output. When using a variable analog output, start with both devices at low volume and raise the level gradually. If the source offers a true line-level mode, follow its instructions.
Choose coaxial for a compatible digital source
Coaxial digital audio carries encoded digital information through a single connection. It is commonly found on televisions, network streamers, CD transports, and other digital sources. The receiving device performs digital-to-analog conversion before amplification.
A coaxial socket can look similar to an RCA analog socket, but the signal is different. Match a coaxial digital output to a coaxial digital input. Do not connect it to a normal left or right RCA input simply because the plug fits.
Before using a television, check its audio output format. Some compact stereo devices accept two-channel PCM but not every multichannel format. Selecting PCM or stereo output in the television menu often resolves a connection that appears physically correct but produces no sound.
Where USB and optical fit
USB and optical are also common, even though they are outside this three-input comparison. USB can connect a computer directly to a compatible DAC, amplifier, or active speaker. Optical carries digital audio through a fibre connection and is common on televisions. If a device lacks the input you need, an appropriate DAC or converter may bridge the formats, but every added box increases complexity.
The cleanest system is usually the one that connects the main source with the fewest necessary conversions while still fitting everyday use.

Use Bluetooth when quick access and cable-free control matter most. Keep the device within range and confirm the correct receiver is selected.
Computer with an external DAC
Connect the computer to the DAC by USB, then run RCA from the DAC to the amplifier. This separates computer audio conversion from the power amplifier and provides a stable wired path.
Television
Use coaxial when both the television and receiving device support it. Set the television to a compatible two-channel format. If the television provides only optical output, use an optical-capable device or a correctly specified converter.
CD player or network streamer
Choose RCA when you want to use the source device’s internal DAC. Choose coaxial when you want the receiving device to perform digital conversion. Neither route is automatically superior; the better choice depends on the two components and the required controls.
Can multiple sources stay connected?
Yes. A system with Bluetooth, RCA, and coaxial inputs can keep several sources connected and switch between them. Label cables during setup, lower the volume before changing sources, and remember that different devices may produce different output levels.
Avoid connecting two outputs into one input with a passive splitter. Use the input selector provided by the amplifier, active speakers, DAC, or preamplifier.
